Supergirl "New 52" Issue 7 by Spacecowboytv Supergirl "New 52" Issue 7 by Spacecowboytv
Here is a continuation of my "You should dress for the job you want, not the job you have" initiative. I received a lot of great comments from you all about my last cover idea and tried to create a similar pose to incorporate that feedback. I wanted to pay more attention to the fabric of the uniform, the right shoulder placement, and the lighting effects. I figured with some tattering of her costume, I could really focus on the clothing. Also, I wanted to do a bit of a more "bad ass" pose with Supergirl possibly experiencing her fire vision for the first time. Maybe in a fight she ends up burning all her surroundings.

Any way, I would love some feedback like the last "trial" cover. Thanks very much for your comments!

I love the look! :la: It is about time someone drew a character with torn fabric. And not in a horrible offensive way. (That has come up a bit.) Sweet attitude, the pose is good, the eyes totally use the fire colors for effect! and the fire itself is great!

I KNOW! So many torn fabric pieces that are conveniently ripped right at the breasts. Hmmm, I wonder how that happened. It totally takes away from a piece that is supposed to show the violence and energy from a fight. It instantly makes the piece overtly sexual in nature and that's just not what the torn superhero suit should do. Glad you liked the fire too, I'd been experimenting with how to do it and I think it turned out really good. Thanks!

Not only do they rip it across the breasts but they never draw any blood on them afterward. I don't know much about actual fighting but arming at those won't do enough actual damage. It instantly loses the intensity the fight should have! And I agree. Skin tight outfits don't move that way!

Welcome! :)

So... you're saying she's dressing for a job other than being a superheroine?

The dressing for the job you want comment is more about me drawing covers for DC, not reflective on Supergirl herself

The Good: Well, you truly did some work on that one and improved upon the last one. The colors are very lively and spot on, saturations are nicely balanced and the fire effect makes the ambiance all the more threatening and sexy for Supergirl. On such a note, her eyes do seem like they just finished burning the place. May I suggest putting either flames out of her eyes or the end of some laser beams so the reader may have a clue she did it besides her eye color... her left hand is perfect as it is and as for the torso and legs, you nailed the pose, as they say. And to reiterate, you did an even better job this time and am eager to see you pursue.

The Bad and the Ugly: Her right hand seems slightly "bloated" with a few too many lines here and there, but otherwise, I think it's very well drawn. Her nose look like it's more round and pompous rather, but maybe that's part of the idea, to make her look different than usual. Under her arms and near her breasts, there still could be very slight improvements such as I suggested: looking in swimsuit editions or such catalogs (or maybe it's I who didn't do it properly) :). As for the breast part, they look like bowling balls put under her suit, may I suggest once again to look for reasearch material (swimsuit... such hard work) :)

All in all, it's a couple steps further and further... you're getting there, man... faster than I if I may say so... but the important part is for you to keep having fun, and every time I look at your art, I'm sure you did.

Also, for other ideas, try different poses for the character: look at other artist's work on the DeviantArt, be it photographs or paintings and drawings, you will possibly feel inspired to use this or that and put it together and see the result.

Can't wait for the next!!!

Wow, thank you again! Yet another extremely well thought out and honest review. I greatly appreciate it. I think you are really on to something about the swimsuit. I wouldn't think of it off the top of my head but the folds and tightness of a swimsuit see perfect for a superhero costume. I'm going to check that out for my next piece for sure. I'm also glad that you can see some improvement over the last piece. Your comments on the previous work help inspire this one. Thanks very much!

Thanks for taking the advice with so much honesty as well... and I can't help the fact that I would've loved to have as many viewers as you, but it's going to be for quite some time from now... how do you do that? Links?

Sorry for the late reply, Its all about getting group links. Make sure that when you submit a piece you add it to as many groups as you can. It gets your work out there much more.

Very sexy. Though Supergirl's costume got ripped in this, it brought in a nod to her 2000s comic book image (not existing in the post-flashpoint DC Universe), which makes this hotter and tastier. I always found Supergirl to look sexier in a crop top fashion.

Excellent stuff.

Thanks very much. I am always going to be a fan of the Michael Turner 2000 costume. I think that's probably why I tore the suit like I did.

i like it, since the cape and outfit have damage to it, like shes obviously been doing something

you see it and go "hey, whats she been doing? i should read this comic and find out what she had to fight to get that way"

quite cool

Sweet, thanks, That will go well with my quest to do a real Supergirl Cover. If it gets readers interested in the book, then I win!
